Welcome to the new CIVL laboratories, a strategy that significantly changes the context in which you’ll be evaluated and how you interact while conducting the experiments!
You and your lab group are a consulting firm who’s been contracted by NEARCreek Industries Ltd (a large engineering and construction company) to provide experimental data to support a number of their projects. You will conduct four sets of experiments about which you will write three engineering reports. The results of your last experiment will be in the form of a presentation at the end of term.
Welcome to CIVL 316 labs and Instructional Support. How you respond to these requests are up to you; there are no formulaic report requirements and no one is going to tell you exactly what you need to do. If you are confused, use your judgement. Requirements can often be vague because clients sometimes don’t know what they want. You are expected to behave as professionals – roles you will occupy in only a few years. Not all answers can be found in textbooks – you will have do some research on certain topics. Please be aware that CIVL 316 will likely be harder than many of your other classes.
